Where to Keep a First-Aid Kit

Accidents can happen anywhere, whether you’re out running errands, cooking dinner at home, or even on an outdoor excursion. With even the most minor scrapes or cuts, it’s important to not only know how to care for the injury, but to also have the proper supplies to do so. For this reason, it’s a good idea to have multiple first-aid kits that you can keep in different places so that you’re always prepared. Not sure where those places might be? In today’s post, we will discuss four of the most common places to keep your first-aid kit.

Having the first-aid kit is one thing, but it’s an entirely other thing to know how to use it. Luckily, if you live in Saint John or the surrounding areas, Bosco Training and Medical Supply is here to help! In addition to providing residents with the necessary first-aid materials, we also offer a variety of first-aid courses that can provide you with the knowledge you need to take care of yourself or someone else in an emergency. In addition to offering courses for individuals, we also offer workplace first-aid courses so that supervisors and their employees all have the necessary knowledge. At Home

When it comes to stocking up on first-aid kits, having one in your home should be a no-brainer. From accidents in the kitchen while you’re cooking to kids who tend to play a little rough, there are countless ways that you or your family could hurt yourselves while at home. For this reason, we recommend having at least one first-aid kit in your home. However, it never hurts to have more than one, especially if you’re running low on supplies. Consider keeping your first-aid kit in a bathroom, kitchen, or another convenient room of the house where you can easily find it when it’s needed.

In Your Car

You never know what might happen when you’re out and about, so it’s always good to be prepared for any scenario. For example, if you’re at a playground with your children and one of them gets a scrape on their knee, you want to have a first-aid kit handy so that you can clean the cut. Another example is if you were to get into a car accident, you would want to have a first-aid kit so that you can provide basic first-aid if necessary.

That being said, we recommend keeping a first-aid kit in your trunk or some other easily accessible place in your car. You also have the option of buying either a smaller or a larger kit depending on your need, and if you can’t find a pre-packaged one that you like, you can always create your own that is more suited to your needs!

At Work

Not all first-aid kits have to be huge and fully stocked with all the supplies you can find at the store — sometimes even having just a small kit with a few bandages and some antibacterial ointment is all you need! If you are someone who goes to work in an office, it’s never a bad idea to keep a smaller first-aid kit at your desk. You never know when you or one of your coworkers may accidentally get a paper cut or hurt themselves on some other type of office equipment. When that happens, it’s a good idea to have the very basic supplies so you can provide them with the first-aid care they need. With that in mind, if you are the manager or supervisor at a company, it’s also a good idea to make sure the office building is equipped with a larger, more comprehensive first-aid kit for injuries that are more severe than a paper cut.

In Your Backpack

Are you someone who likes to go on trips or enjoys backpacking through the woods? If the answer is yes, then another place you should keep a first-aid kit is in your backpack! Hiking can be dangerous, and the last thing you want is to be on a hike, fall and scrape your arm, and not have any bandages or other first-aid supplies to take care of it. Additionally, even people who carry around backpacks for trips need to be prepared for any unexpected injuries.

Floater Kit

While the four places listed above are the most common places you will need a first-aid kit, as we mentioned above, it’s never a bad idea to have more than one kit on hand. For this reason, we recommend having a floater first-aid kit that you can easily take with you wherever it may be needed. If you don’t have enough first-aid kits, and you need one for a trip or some other event, you may decide to take a kit from one of the places listed above. As a result, you’re leaving that place unprepared if there is an emergency, especially if you forget to put the first-aid kit back when you’re done using it. Instead, it’s a better idea to have an extra floater first-aid kit that you can take with you that doesn’t leave you without a kit in your home, at work, in your car, or in your backpack.
